The ACT Deafness Resource Centre is a community organisation providing information, referral and advocacy services for the Hearing Impaired, Deaf and those with Chronic Disorders of the Ear. We offer support to the broader ACT community.
ACT PLAYGROUPS ASSOCIATION
Are you looking to make new friends? Do you want your children to socialise with other children? The ACT Playgroups Association can give you information about existing playgroups in the ACT and neighbouring parts of NSW, or can you help you start a playgroup of your own! The ACT Playgroups Association (ACTPGA) is a not for profit organisation governed by a voluntary board.
ADOPTIVE FAMILIES ASSOCIATION OF THE ACT
The AFA is a supportive community of adoptive parents and children providing friendship, information, advice and informal education on all aspects of adoption and adoptive parenting.
ALLERGIES & INTOLERANT REACTIONS ASSOCIATION
AIRA Inc (Allergies and Intolerant Reactions Association) was formed in the early 1980s to provide individual support and advocacy as well as systemic advocacy for people with adverse reactions to small amounts of substances which do not bother others.
ARTHRITIS & OSTEOPOROSIS ACT
Arthritis & Osteoporosis ACT is a non-profit organisation that aims to improve the quality of life of people in the ACT who are suffering from arthritis, osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal conditions.
ASTHMA FOUNDATION ACT
The Asthma Foundation ACT provides asthma information and training to the ACT community, promotes research and advocates on behalf of people with asthma in the ACT.
AUSTRALIAN BREASTFEEDING ASSOCIATION ACT/NSW
The ABA support, educate and advocate for a breastfeeding inclusive society. We provide mothers with practical mother-to-mother support and information, enabling them to establish and continue breastfeeding.
BETTER HEARING AUSTRALIA CANBERRA INC
Better Hearing Australia Canberra Inc assists people with a hearing loss in the ACT with information, education and support.
CANBERRA LUNG LIFE SUPPORT GROUP
The Canberra Lung Life Support Group is the local support group for people with a variety of chronic lung conditions and their carers. The group offers support to each other, including information about navigating the health system – the doctors, the treatment, the medicines, the oxygen, as well as the assistance they can get.
CANCER COUNCIL ACT
Cancer Council ACT is a non government not-for-profit community organisation that aims to promote a healthier community by reducing the incidence and impact of cancer in the ACT region. The Council depends largely on the generosity of the ACT and surrounding community providing donations and supporting fundraising initiatives.
COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS ACT & QUEANBEYAN
Compassionate Friends ACT & Queanbeyan is a worldwide family of bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents offering friendship and understanding to each other. We offer support in the trauma and grief that follow the death of a child.
Diabetes ACT is a not-for-profit organisation. Our purpose is to help all people with diabetes, their families and those at risk, and to contribute to the prevention of diabetes.
DIRECTIONS HEALTH ACT
Directions Health ACT regards access to health and related services as a fundamental human right.
For people who use Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD), access includes being able to obtain knowledge of health options relevant to their needs. It includes the ability to choose between and utilise services unhindered by discrimination, stereotyping and prejudice. Directions also assists in improving access to health services by finding alternative ways to reach out to those in our community, and their families, whose lives are affected by ATOD.
EPILEPSY ASSOCIATION (ACT) INC
The Epilepsy Association (ACT) Inc is a not-for-profit, self-help community service organisation providing services for people with epilepsy, their families and the community.
HAEMOPHILIA FOUNDATION ACT
The Haemophilia Foundation ACT (HFACT) is an incorporated body representing people and their families affected by Haemophilia, Von Willebrand’s disease and other bleeding disorders in Canberra, and the surrounding region including southern New South Wales.
Hepatitis ACT is the ACT’s community hepatitis organisation. We work to help prevent hepatitis transmission in our community and reduce the impacts for people affected.
HEALTH CARE CONSUMERS ASSOCIATION
The Health Care Consumers’ Association (HCCA) is a health promotion organisation that provides a voice for consumers on local health issues and provides opportunities for health care consumers in the ACT to participate in all levels of health service planning, policy development and decision making. HCCA works to improve the quality and availability of health services, supports consumers to identify shared priorities about health, and represents these views to the ACT Government.
HCCA is the peak consumer organisation in the ACT and involves consumers through:
- Consumer representation
- Training in health rights and navigating the health system
- Community forums
- Information sessions about health services
- Advocating for issues of concern to consumers
- Works for the improvement of quality and safety of health services
MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION
Mental Health Foundation ACT’s mission is through innovative, quality services and to provide choice and control for people in meeting their individual mental health needs.
Our aims are to support people on their mental health journey, improve lives through community acceptance and social inclusion, design and deliver a choice innovative quality services and build a strong and valued mental health foundation.
Pain Support ACT (Pain Support) promotes the health and well being of people in the Canberra region living with persistent or chronic pain, including their family and carers. It also advocates for better services for people with pain and better understanding of this debilitating condition. This site offers a range of options for people with pain in the Canberra region, including:

POST-POLIO SUPPORT GROUP ACT
Post-Polio Support Group ACT is for polio survivors who may be suffering from the late effects of the illness, otherwise known as Post-Polio Syndrome. For more than 10 years the Group has provided information and support to polio survivors, carers and Health Care providers in the ACT and Region.
ROYAL SOCIETY FOR THE BLIND
The Canberra Blind Society (CBS) in association with the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB) are delivering an increased range of services to people who are blind or vision impaired in the ACT.The range of increased services available to RSB | CBS clients and other people living with vision loss or blindness in the ACT to assist them to live independently include:

SUPPORT ASIAN WOMEN’S FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION
We aim to provide social support to all women especially those from Asian backgrounds. We aim to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the needs of women in the field of social welfare and relating to one another. We aim to foster social connections. We aim to maximise the opportunities for women to access government and non-government services and information. We believe that we can make a difference.
SLEEP APNOEA ASSOCIATION ACT
Sleep Apnoea Association ACT is a self help support group for sufferers of sleep disorders. We provide support, ongoing information and advice to sufferers of sleep apnoea and similar sleep disorders.
Solace ACT provide grief support for those grieving over the death of their partner. Talk or Listen, in a non-threatening environment, to others who have been through the trauma of losing their loved one through death.
A simple way to remove fear is to seek support and understanding. Permission to grieve assists in the healing process.
THYROID SUPPORT GROUP ACT
Thyroid Support Group ACT is a self-help group made up of people with different thyroid disorders, and/or family members of those with thyroid diagnosis.
(Technical Aid to the Disabled ACT Inc.) is a registered charity and not for profit organisation specialising in arranging for the provision of equipment to people with disabilities, older people and their carers, that is not otherwise available from commercial sources.
To enable ongoing independence for people with disabilities and older people, and to support their carers.
TJILLARI JUSTICE ABORIGINAL CORPORATION
TJILLARI Justice was founded because of a growing concern about the lack of recognition of children’s rights and the lack of knowledge about the impact of children who have parents or family members as inmates in Correctional Centres.
Children and families also have to cope with police, courts, remand centers and probation departments.
With extensive experience across Police training, Corrections -custodial and community based programs, Correctional Education and work in community based legal services, TJILLARI Justice is well placed to deliver training, support children and families and conduct research on justice issues to:

- Carers – Family carers
- Community organizations
- Corrective Services
- Legal Firms now working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people – clients and staff.
