Chronic Conditions Self Management Expo 2011
People who live with a chronic condition or disease, their Carers, Health Professionals and anyone who’s life is touched by chronic diseases or conditions are invited to participate in a fun, interactive day “ Living a Healthy Life – See, Feel, Touch, Do” a Chronic Disease Self Management Expo, at the Southern Cross Club Woden, on Wednesday, May 18th from 10am-3pm.
The purpose of holding this Expo is to promote better understanding of Self Management of Chronic Diseases. National Health data indicates that the prevalence of chronic disease in the ACT is increasing significantly, as it is nationally and internationally. In 2001, 82.1% of all ACT residents who responded to the National Health Survey, reported having long term chronic condition, compared with 77.9% nationally. Population projections suggest that the ACT population is ageing faster that other jurisdictions. (ACT Chronic Disease Strategy 2008-11)
We hope that the Expo will increase opportunities for networking between consumers and providers as well as raise awareness of the incredible range of resources, activities and enthusiasm to support chronic conditions Self Management in the ACT.
